Beach boy

By using a stream of materials that already had a life of their own, designers are not only dealing with the materiality, but also with the emotional character that it entails. With 'Beach Boy', Jules Vrijsen set out from an experiment with industrial waste, from the construction industry. He combines this with his father's wetsuit. By stretching the textile over a structure of XPS panels, Jules highlights the material's convivial and characteristic traces of use. In this way, he shows the brutal and experimental aesthetics of 'Post-Industrial Crafts' and valorises discarded materials using a crafting process.
